Summary
  • Version 3.0.4 for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe fixes issues in Time Trials and online races.
  • Update resolves sync issues in "3DS Music Park" and coin visibility in "N64 Rainbow Road."

Just a few weeks before Mario Kart World speeds onto the scene next month, Nintendo has quietly pushed out Version 3.0.4 for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While it doesn’t bring flashy new content, it smooths out a couple of pesky hiccups that have been cropping up in Time Trials and online races.

First up, players racing on “3DS Music Park” during Time Trials noticed that repeatedly opening and closing the pause menu could throw the rhythm of those bouncing note markers out of sync with both the music and the ghost data. With this update, the notes will line up correctly when you play back your ghost runs, even if they still momentarily wander off-beat while you’re toggling the menu. Do keep in mind, though, that any ghost data recorded before this patch can’t be uploaded to Nintendo’s servers—and if some old ghosts are already glitching, they might disappear from the “Online Ghosts” list without warning.

The other tweak affects spectators in “N64 Rainbow Road.” Previously, when onlookers tossed coins onto the track, they’d vanish into thin air before ever hitting the pavement. That little visual quirk has now been squashed, so you can watch those shiny coins plunk down as intended.

To grab the update, just fire up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and hit the “+” or “–” button on your Joy-Con, then select “Software Update” over the internet. If any more patches arrive or we get a sneak peek at what Mario Kart World has in store, you’ll be the first to know.
