  • Nintendo is upgrading a dozen popular titles for the Switch 2, including Pokémon Scarlet & Violet and
  • Zelda titles will get prettier graphics and HDR support, but no explicit mention of framerate boosts.

Nintendo just laid out its free Switch 2 upgrade plans for a dozen popular titles, and while most updates are exactly what fans expected—Pokémon Scarlet & Violet getting sharper visuals and smoother framerates, Super Mario Odyssey gaining HDR and GameShare—it’s the tweaking of Link’s Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom that’s got Zelda devotees raising an eyebrow.

On the Switch 2, both Zelda games will boast prettier graphics and HDR support. Noticeably absent, though, is any callout about boosting their framerate. Given that these remasters already aim for 60 fps but often dip below, players might worry that Nintendo’s shrugging off performance fixes.

Here’s why that concern’s probably overblown: Nintendo only flags “framerate boosts” when it’s raising a title’s cap—think going from 30 fps to 60. Since both Link’s Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom already target 60 fps, the Switch 2’s extra horsepower should simply iron out the hiccups, keeping gameplay steadier rather than smashing through to 120 fps.

For context, ARMS and Bowser’s Fury are explicitly getting framerate notes because they’ll move from 30 to a rock-solid 60 in handheld and split-screen modes. The Zelda titles, by contrast, don’t need a cap hike—just consistent delivery at their existing ceiling.

Of course, until the Switch 2 hits on June 5, 2025, and we see performance side by side, all we have are educated guesses. But it’s reasonable to expect that Nintendo’s visual enhancements for these two classics will also quietly stabilize their framerate. Players should look forward to crisper colors and fewer speed bumps, even if “framerate patch” never shows up in the official notes.
